Sports Editor Zack Carpenter details a list of the best upcoming baseball matchups in the area:

Armstrong-Potomac vs. G-RF/C

May 2

The Buffaloes are right up there with Salt Fork as one of the top teams in the impressive Vermillion Valley Conference. But if A-P’s Rylee Showalter, Shawn Reardon and company can show up defensively and on the mound like they did against the Storm on Thursday, an upset is certainly possible.

Rantoul vs. Pontiac

May 3

This may not necessarily be one of the biggest games of the season, but every Illini Prairie Conference game could prove vital.

Armstrong-Potomac vs. Oakwood

May 4

Chase Vinson, Skyler Bolton and company are chasing an above-.500 record right now. But even though they have a subpar record, the Comets are still one of the most dangerous clubs in the VVC.

Fisher vs. GCMS

May 8

As the regular season winds down and the Heart of Illinois Conference tournament approaches, this should prove a strong test for the Bunnies as they hope to make some noise in the postseason. The HOIC tourney should be a strong preparation for the regional.

Rantoul vs. G-RF/C

May 11

One of the best aspects of baseball is that the playing field usually tends to be more level than in other sports. This big school vs. small school nonconference matchup could end up being a thriller.
