The Rantoul Theatre Group has chosen the cast for its original production of "Aesop’s Fables and A Christmas Surprise."  

The play will be performed Dec. 2-4 and 9-11 at Grissom Hall Theatre, 914 Arends Blvd., Rantoul, with actors from Thomasboro, Mahomet, Paxton, Ogden and Rantoul.  Friday and Saturday performances start at 8 p.m.  Two Sunday matinees will begin at 2.   

Heading the cast is Venus Fuller as Mrs. Aesop.

Animal characters are portrayed by Gerilyn Bagtas, Mhinnalyn Bagtas, Thrinnagee Bagtas, Heaven Bonelli, Greyson Inman, Desiree Lawrence, Matthew Lindsey, Emma Mihaly, Lydia Mihaly, Ashleigh Rogue, McKenna Sprandel, Raegyn Sprandel, Isabelle Torres and Ashlee Walp.

Human characters are acted by Mariah Brown, Coralee Gauze, Harriet Hinderer, Greyson Inman, Jace Jamison, Cree Noble, Cynthia McEntire, Lydia Mihaly,  Emma Mihaly, Shannon Satterlee, Seth Sprandel and Ashlee Walp.

Starring in "A Christmas Surprise" are Jace Jamison, Greyson Inman and Mariah Brown as the Three Magi, Balthazar, Gaspar, and Melchoir. Playing shepherds Sephora and Sandra are Coralee Gauze and Ashlee Walp.

Larry Smith directs the play with Taylor N. Lykins as assistant director/stage manager.

Aesop was an historical Greek figure who lived during the years about 620-564 B.C.  He is famous for telling stories, called fables, using animal characters to teach morals. During his lifetime, he is credited with more than 660 fables. The Rantoul Theatre Group has selected nine of the most commonly known Aesop Fables and added a featured segment for the Christmas season telling the "manger story from the perspective of the Three Wise Men (Magi) from the East.  The play is a family show suitable for all age groups.
