RANTOUL — Two new billboards have sprouted on the north and south sides of Rantoul along Interstate 57, trumpeting local shopping.
The village of Rantoul sponsored the cost of the billboards.
Chamber Executive Director Belynda Allen said the billboards have "been a project in the making for months."
They were designed by Amanda Royse of the Center for Community Adaptation. Allen credited Royse as well as Village Administrator Rick Snider and Economic Development Director Rebecca Motley for work on the project.
Waters Electric of Rantoul repaired and redid the electrical on both signs.
"I am hopeful that all of the businesses of Rantoul will benefit from these beautiful billboards by bringing those travelers off of the interstate and into our village to stay, shop, eat and play," Allen said.
She said the Shop Rantoul First program "is a challenge to all of us to work together, and as a community we can and will see that dream come true."
