RANTOUL — A motorist escaped injury when the car he was driving caught fire in the parking lot at Rantoul Walmart.

Fire destroyed this late-model car Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot at Rantoul Walmart.

Fire Chief Ken Waters said the car was driven by Virgil Suits. He said the right side of Suits' nylon coat was singed in the Tuesday afternoon fire.

The fire started under the console of the late-model car. Waters said the exact cause was undetermined.

Firefighters responded to the call at 3:40 p.m.

Fourteen firefighters with two engines were on the scene.

The car was a total loss.
