RANTOUL — Police arrested a 63-year-old Rantoul woman Sunday afternoon after the car she was driving struck a tree and badly damaged the vehicle.
Marion E. Trotter, 63, who listed an address in the 1500 block of Hobson Drive, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, operation of uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage. Trotter was also arrested for intimidation as a result of threats made to officers during the investigation.
Trotter was transported to the Champaign County jail after she was examined by Carle Hospital emergency department personnel.
Police about 5:49 p.m. were called to the intersection of Eagle Drive and Pacesetter Drive, where a vehicle had struck a tree. The vehicle Trotter had been driving had sustained heavy front-end damage.
While speaking with Trotter, officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath.
Police summoned an ambulance to examine Trotter, but she refused to remain in the ambulance and was confrontational with medical staff. Officers ultimately arrested Trotter.
