These area boys and girls basketball players typically won’t fill up the scoring column. But their intangibles go beyond just putting the ball in the basket.
1. Kalista Lutes — When the Rantoul Township High School senior forward hits her shot, it’s an added bonus. Lutes isn’t afraid to go after rebounds against much taller opponents or dive on the floor after a loose ball.
2. Tanner McLain — The RTHS junior guard doesn’t take a break on defense. Ever.
3. Luke Harvey — Every time the Fisher senior guard plays a game, he’ll wind up diving after a loose ball. Guaranteed.
4. Olivia Heffernan — The Fisher junior guard’s 11 assists against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley on Dec. 18 set a single-game record for the Bunnies, and she isn’t afraid to get after it defensively.
5. Courtney Hambleton — Rebounding, good passes and steady defense are what Trojans head coach Nick Hipsher needs from his junior guard. So far, so good.
