RTHS athletic director still not at work

Rantoul Township High School operated the second semester of last school year with an interim athletic director.

Could the district find itself in a similar situation again this year? Stay tuned.

First-year athletic director Joe Bendoraitis, who is also the Eagles' head football coach, has not been at the high school since Nov. 29.

RTHS Superintendent Scott Amerio said Thursday morning he does not anticipate Bendoraitis returning to work until at least next Tuesday.

Amerio declined to give any more specific information about the situation.

Amerio had previously said that Bendoraitis' reason for not being at the school "in no way involves anything with students or student safety."

"There probably won't be any updates until Tuesday," Amerio said. "One of the things I want to do is update the board on what's going on."

The RTHS school board is set to hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. next Monday in the RTHS board room.

"We won't be taking any official action on Monday night," Amerio said, "but I just want to update them."

Amerio spoke with the district's attorney, Dennis Weedman, briefly on Wednesday about the matter.

Weedman is a partner with Robbins Schwartz in the firm's Collinsville office.

"He's checking into some things," Amerio said.
