Freshman orientation event a success

To the editor:

We had our annual freshman orientation at the Rantoul High School, which gave the incoming freshmen and their families a chance to visit the high school and tour all the classrooms and activity areas as well as have some refreshments before the come in next August.

These incoming freshmen came from all the feeder schools, including St. Malachy, J.W. Eater, Thomasboro, Ludlow, Gifford and Prairieview-Ogden. It was very well attended with over 120 incoming students and their families coming together for the event.

The event was sponsored by the Rantoul Township High School Area Education Foundation, which includes RTHS and all the feeder schools. I would also like to thank the board of the RTHSAEF for their help and the student council for their help with the tours and all the clubs at the school taking time to show the incoming students what there is to offer at RTHS.

I also want to thank the staff and administration for their help in setting the evening up and making everyone welcome.

There were many volunteers who made the evening a very big success.

We also had refreshments from County Market of Rantoul and from Papa Johns of Rantoul, who are very supportive every year.

We have a huge asset in Rantoul High School and the feeder schools coming into RTHS, and the communities need to become aware of what we have and support it as well. If you have not been to RTHS, you are missing a tremendous asset in your community. Stop by and walk around and see what is there. You will be greatly surprised.
