Verlen Kelly

Verlen Kelly, 89, of Dewey died at 10:44 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, at home.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, with the Rev. John Tennyson officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Township Cemetery, Gibson City, with military rites accorded by American Legion Post 568.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Kelly was born Oct. 19, 1929, in Decatur, a son of Peter John and Edythe (Bowers) Kelley. He married Helen Starke and later married Lisa (Bozzelli), and she preceded him in death

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Robert) Baxter of Ohio, Laurie (Patrick) Baird of California and Karen Gulleson of Colorado; sons, Peter Kelly of California and Devon Kelly of Dewey; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joyce Thompson.

Mr. Kelly served in the Navy from April 1946 to Dec. 1, 1974. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for the U.S. government as a civilian employee. He was a member of the Gibson City American Legion and was a NASCAR enthusiast.

Memorials in Mr. Kelly’s name may be given to an organization of the donor’s choice.
