John L. Johnson

John L. Johnson, 88, of Rantoul died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019.

A service in his memory will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 12, at Bethany Park Christian Church, 1401 E. Grove Ave., Rantoul. The Rev. Maxine Vallejo-Rixman will officiate.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church.

Lux Memorial Chapel, Rantoul, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 11, 1930, in Philadelphia, a son of George and Mattie Johnson.

He is survived by his wife Bobbie Johnson; children, Rosalind (Frank) Davis, Beverly (Ron) Hayes, John (Paula) Johnson, Perry Johnson, Kenneth (Chasity) Johnson, Kevin (Crystal) Johnson and Zelda Gardner; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service, as an aircraft mechanic. He was an alum of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was a  teacher of industrial arts, school counselor and director of the Cultural Club at Rantoul Township High school during the late 1970s.

He was a member of Bethany Park Christian Church.
