Ronald D. Duden, 70, of Gifford died Sunday afternoon, June 2, 2013, at his home, surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 6, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gifford. The Rev. Steven Lombardo will officiate. Burial will be in Huls Cemetery, Gifford.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Lux Memorial Chapel in Rantoul is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Duden was born Oct. 16, 1942, in Urbana, a son of Garrelt and Evelyn (Ackerman) Duden. He married Jimmie N. Tucker Oct. 19, 1963, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gifford. She survives.
Also surviving are four children, Lora Koester Alan (Gina) Duden and Gary (Jill) Duden, all of Gifford, and Linda (Michael) Fant of Seattle; a brother, Randy (Cindy) Duden of Gifford; a sister, Janice (Al) Skiles of Aurora, Colo.; and eight grandchildren, Brandon Koester, Megan Koester, Haley Duden, Drew Duden, Morgan Fant, Logan Fant, Anna Duden and Laney Duden.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Duden was a 1960 graduate of Armstrong High School. He worked as a laborer for the University of Illinois for 35 years, retiring in 1996.
He then worked part time doing construction with the late Deland Johnson and Chuck Gehrt and spent many hours working with his two sons at Duden and Silver.
He also loved to do small-engine repair and was a lifelong farmer. He loved to spend time woodworking and gardening with his wife.
He was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He served in many roles including deacon and trustee. He also served on the Gifford Fire Department for almost 40 years.
One of his hobbies was restoring Allis Chalmers tractors with his brother, nephew and grandson.
Mr. Duden enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending all their events, local and in Seattle.
