Henry Eugene Cain, 88, of Philo, son of a Penfield resident, died at 10:32 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 16, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Philo, with the Rev. Bo Schmitt officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Philo.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. with rosary at 3:45 p.m., on Sunday at Freese Funeral Home, Sidney.
Mr. Cain was born Jan. 2, 1924, in Philo, a son of Leo and Nellie McCormick Cain. He married LaVonne Miller June 18, 1947, in Bongard. She survives.
Also surviving are eight children, Tom (Cherie) Cain, Pat (Rick) Kirby, Mary (Dean) Reifsteck and Paul (Diane) Cain, all of Philo; Dick (Cheryl) Cain of Savoy, Cathy (Rick) Powers of St. Joseph, Chris Cain of Champaign and Dan (Amy) Cain of Penfield; one daughter-in-law, Peg Cain of Robinson; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Rita (John) Clennon of Philo.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bob Cain; two grandchildren; and two brothers, John and Bill Cain.
Mr. Cain farmed in the Philo area all of his life. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Champaign Council, FSA committeeman, Philo Township supervisor, Philo Fire Department, Prime Timers of Farm Bureau and the St. Thomas school board.
