Boil order lifted; village deals with water main breakage, power outage in two-day span

Updated 11 a.m. Wednesday

A boil order for downtown Rantoul has been lifted.

The village of Rantoul had to deal with two Public Works emergencies Monday and Tuesday.
On Monday a water main broke, forcing a boil order to be issued, and on Tuesday, power was lost to part of the village.

Boil order
The boil order began at 6 a.m. Tuesday and continued after village crews made repairs to a water main break at Sangamon and Garrard.
The areas affected by the boil order are:
100 block north of Garrard
100 block south of Garrard
100 block east of Sangamon
100 block west of Sangamon
100 block of South Century

Power outage
Public Works Superintendent Greg Hazel said power was lost to about eight blocks of the village beginning about 11 a.m. Tuesday.
“The power outage was centered in the downtown area,” Hazel said, but also included Rantoul Township High School.
“The wind today got the phases together of two circuits and burned down one of the phases and resulted in some fuses being blown and some equipment damage that took some time to identify and repair,” Hazel said.
One section of town was restored to power in about 45 minutes, Hazel said, while another section got power back in about 90 minutes. The final section had power restored about 2 1/2 hours after it went out.
