Lutes named Exchange Club student of the month

Kalista Lutes is the Rantoul Exchange Club student of the month.

A daughter of Prospero and Kathy Lutes of Gifford, she ranks 10th in her senior class of 158 students at Rantoul Township High School and carries a 5.187 grade point average.

She has been involved in a number of school activities, including volleyball team, basketball team, softball team, football team manager, student council, National Honor Society, Eagle Mentoring Program, Interact and has sung the national anthem at numerous sporting events.

Lutes has served as student council president, basketball team captain and head football manager.

Honors and awards include three-year tri-athlete, most improved girls basketball player, varsity letter winner in basketball and softball, Scholar Athlete Award, Language Arts Award, Physical Education Award, Mathematics Award, Outstanding Achievement in Applied Business Practices, Excellence in Geometry, certificate of recognition for American Legion Auxiliary Illini Girls State, Hugh O’Brian alternate, perfect attendance award, academic letter award and homecoming court.

Civic and volunteer activities have included Immanuel Lutheran Church vacation Bible school volunteer, Special Olympics volunteer, National Honor Society Christmas giving volunteer, tutoring, National Honor Society Superhero Day, church mission trips and helped at the Los Angeles woman’s shelter.

Her work experience has included babysitting for family and friends, scorekeeper for Rantoul Recreation Department summer softball and baseball leagues.
