Rantoul girl receives reply from president

By RANTOUL PRESS

Jasmin Shinn will show anyone she meets these days a letter she recently received.

The 7-year-old Rantoul resident wrote President Barack Obama a letter prior to the November general election, and he replied.

Jasmin, daughter of Amber Shinn of Rantoul, received a letter signed by Obama accompanied by a photo of him and a photo of the family dog.

She wrote the letter while in the day care that she is in, operated by Mattie Garris.

She remembers that she wrote Obama that she hoped “you could be the president and not Mitt Romney” because Romney takes money from the poor and gives it to the rich.

Jasmin, who attends Eastlawn School, also asked him if he had a dog and what color it is.

Obama’s letter, dated Jan. 10, thanked Jasmin for writing and said he was “continually inspired by the enthusiasm and ideas of young Americans, and I appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts with me.”
