Champaign County, Fisher Fair queens to compete for state title

The Fisher Fair and Champaign County Fair queens will compete for the title of 2013 Miss Illinois County Fair Queen this weekend.

Champaign County Fair Queen Chandler Bruns and Fisher Fair Queen Taylor Franzen, both of Gifford, will be among the contestants.

Bruns was crowned June 16 as the 2012 Miss Champaign County Fair.

She is a daughter of Steve and Christine Bruns of Gifford.  

Since her reign she has served as Champaign County Fair’s ambassador, working with the Farm Bureau to celebrate its 100-year anniversary and promoting agriculture in the county.   

Fisher Fair Queen Franzen was crowned in July.

She is a daughter of Tom and Teri Franzen of Gifford.  

A junior at the U of I majoring in nursing, she has been an  ambassador for the Fisher Fair by attending numerous events throughout the county and state promoting agriculture.

The Miss Illinois County Fair competition will take place Jan. 17-20 in Springfield. Bruns and Franzen will vie with 72 other contestants for the title.

The process includes personal interviews, evening gown, beauty and physique and a one-minute speech. The winner will be crowned the evening of Jan. 20.

The new 2013 Miss Illinois County Fair queen will serve as a representative for the Illinois State Fair and will promote agriculture throughout the state during her reign.
