RTHS to mark Black History Month with events

Rantoul Township High School will celebrate Black History Month in February with several activities, including a program, an essay contest and other events.

A black history trivia quiz will be held at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the school library.

First prize is $30, second prize is $20, and third is $10.

A black history program will be presented from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in the school cafetorium.

The Rev. Clarence Buchanan will be the keynote speaker. The event will also include singing, a book display and artifacts, dancing, presentations and gourmet desserts.

The event is open to the public.

On Feb. 14, a soul food lunch will be served at the school.

A bulletin board display will also be set up at the school.

A Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. essay contest will be held. Deadline to submit entries is Wednesday, Feb. 20. See Betty Jones at RTHS for contest rules. The winner, who receives $75, will be announced Monday,
