Students at Northview School in Rantoul were given the opportunity to receive counseling this week following the unexpected death of a staff member at the school.
Rantoul City Schools Lead Administrator Jennifer Ernst said Anna Ferguson died of a brain aneurism Feb. 12 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. She was 29.
Ernst said Ms. Ferguson was school librarian and did after-school tutoring. She began working at the Rantoul school in November.
“She was just a vivacious ball of energy,” Ernst said. “We were really delighted to have her.
“It was a shock,” she said of Ms Ferguson’s death.
Ms. Ferguson, who resided in Savoy, leaves a 3-year-old daughter, Korazon.
Ernst said “five or six” students took advantage of the counseling.
“There were kids who were attached to her, and it might have been (some) kids who had lost someone earlier this year (and her death brought it all back),” Ernst said.
She said Rantoul City Schools will make a contribution to Ms. Ferguson’s memorial fund.
Her obituary appears on this website.
