Man arrested after fleeing police

RANTOUL — A 44-year-old Rantoul man is in jail after sheriff’s deputies say he led them on a chase in a stolen vehicle.

According to the Champaign County sheriff’s office, deputies helped the Rantoul and Champaign police departments catch a man in a stolen vehicle.

The sheriff’s office responded at about 1:45 a.m. Monday about a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Rantoul Sunday evening.

Champaign police found the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the man drove off.

A Champaign County Sheriff’s canine handler found the vehicle and chased it in the county, following it into Rantoul. There, the man bailed out of the moving vehicle in the 400 block of South Chanute Street and ran from the scene. The vehicle continued to move and crashed into a parked vehicle.

The police dog Arco caught the man, who was treated for minor injuries and then taken to the Champaign County satellite jail.

Arrested was Danny L. Grady  of Rantoul.

He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under revoked license, aggravated fleeing/attempting to elude police, disobeying a traffic control device and resisting/obstructing an officer.
