Rantoul man gets 6 years in prison for aggravated battery to a child

URBANA — A Rantoul man has been sentenced to six years in prison for injuring a 16-month-old Ludlow boy in his care last summer.

Jade Kilgore, 22, pleaded guilty before Judge Tom Difanis Monday to the Class X felony of aggravated battery to a child.

Kilgore, who had been in a relationship with the child’s mother, was charged after she took her son to a hospital after she returned home and found swelling on his head in June 2015. The child was found to have a skull fracture and broken ribs.

Kilgore initially said the child had fallen down stairs, but “doctors concluded that the injuries to the child were not consistent with that explanation,” and an emeritus professor in biomechanics from Illinois State University concluded the same thing, said State’s Attorney Julia Rietz in a release.

Rietz said the child has recovered from his injuries and is doing well.
