Two men are in custody for allegedly forcing their way into a Rantoul man’s home early Sunday morning and robbing him.

Rantoul police Sgt. Marcus Beach said patrol officers arrested Travis P. Burke, 22, of the 1100 block of East Champaign Avenue, Rantoul, and Timothy S. Lowe, 20, of rural St. Joseph on preliminary charges of home invasion and criminal damage to property.

Beach said the 24-year-old resident of an apartment in the 1300 block of McCullough Drive told police that just before 6 a.m. Sunday, two men he knew and recognized as Burke and Lowe climbed through his apartment window.

Beach said the man ran to a bedroom, but they allegedly kicked in the door, battered and robbed him.

Beach said the victim gave the pair an undisclosed amount of cash and they left. When they returned to his apartment about two hours later, the victim called police and Burke and Lowe were arrested.

Illinois Department of Corrections records indicate that both men are on parole — Burke for possession of a stolen vehicle and Lowe for burglary.

They were expected to be formally charged Monday afternoon.
