Twin brothers from Rantoul were criminally charged Monday with burglary for allegedly breaking into a grocery store in the village last week.

Rantoul police Sgt. Marcus Beach said that on Thursday morning, police were called to La Victoria at 126 E. Sangamon Ave., where the back door of the business had been kicked in about 11:30 the night before. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken.

A patrol officer was able to find video from another business in that area that showed two men, one wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and the other in a blue hooded sweatshirt, in the area of La Victoria.

The security video discovery came after Christian and Christopher Barragan, 17, who listed an address in the 200 block of Illinois Drive, had been stopped, identified, questioned and released late Wednesday night after they were seen hanging around another business on East Sangamon Avenue about a half block away from the grocery store.

The two were wearing white and blue hoodies, Beach said, and each had bandannas stuffed in their sweatshirt pockets.
On Friday, after the patrol officer looked at the video and compared it with the descriptions of the men questioned late Wednesday night, police decided to arrest the twins.

They appeared in court Monday on the Class 2 felony charge and were told to return to court April 16. Both remain free on bond.
