URBANA — A 21-year-old Rantoul man was arraigned Friday on charges that he allegedly broke a 2-year-old child’s leg.

Dustin J. Riddle, who listed an address in the Fountain Valley Mobile Home Park, is due back in court March 19 after being charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a child.

A sheriff’s deputy’s report said Riddle was home with the 2-year-old and his 1-year-old brother while the children’s mother was at work.

Riddle heard a commotion between the two, and after checking, allegedly picked the 2-year-old up by his hips, spun him around and forced him to the ground, all in one motion. Immediately, the child yelled and put his hand to his upper left leg.

The report said the child’s thigh-bone was broken.

If convicted of the more serious of the counts, Riddle could be sentenced to between six and 30 years in prison.
