One dropped as suspect in shots fired at Rantoul man

CHAMPAIGN — Police say one man originally wanted in connection with a shooting in northwest Champaign on Sunday no longer is a suspect.

Aaron Jamerson, 21, who listed an address in the 1700 block of Scottsdale Drive, Champaign, is no longer a suspect in the case, Champaign police spokeswoman Rene

Dunn said Thursday morning. Dunn said Jamerson was wrongly identified by the victim.

Quintin Brown, 21, who listed an address in the 200 block of West Beslin Street, Urbana, still is wanted on a warrant issued Monday charging him with the attempted murder of a Rantoul man and aggravated discharge of a firearm for firing a gun in his direction.

A release from Champaign police said the 40-year-old man reported he was driving in the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive about 10:30 p.m. Sunday when two men he recognized approached him in a vehicle.

One got out and began firing multiple shots. As the Rantoul man tried to leave the area, the second man pointed a gun at him and also fired several shots.

The Rantoul man was not physically injured.

Both men ran and police have been unable to find them.
