URBANA — An employee of an Urbana assisted-living facility has been criminally charged with stealing from a resident’s room.

Shiquita Sutton, 28, who listed an address in the 1500 block of Hobson Drive, Rantoul, was arrested Thursday at the Canterbury Ridge, 1706 Amber Lane, Urbana.

An Urbana police report said over the last couple of weeks, several residents in their 80s and 90s reported cash missing from their rooms.

On Jan. 24, police set up a hidden camera in the room of a resident who is often out of her room.

They placed a $20 bill on top of a dresser, and two days later, Sutton was recorded taking the bill and putting it in her pocket.

Police said she denied taking the cash.

She was charged Friday with residential burglary and burglary alleging she entered the facility and the room intending to steal. Judge Richard Klaus told her to be back in court March 12.

If convicted of the more serious residential burglary charge, Sutton faces four to 15 years in prison.
