A Rantoul teen is in the county jail after his arrest for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a younger teen.

Rantoul Police Lt. Jeffrey Wooten said Gage Peters, 18, who listed an address in the 300 block of Phillips Drive, was arrested Tuesday for criminal sexual assault and intimidation.

Wooten said on Monday his department was contacted that Peters may have been engaging in sex acts with a younger teenage male and threatening to make public the relationship if the younger teen refused to continue in that relationship, which had reportedly been going on several months. Peters was arrested on his way to school at

Rantoul Township High School Tuesday morning, Wooten said. He cooperated with police during interviews and was taken to the county jail in the afternoon.
Wooten said police seized Peters’ computer.

He’s expected to make a court appearance Wednesday afternoon.

Two weeks ago, Peters appeared at a RTHS school board meeting to complain that the school administration had not acted swiftly enough to address incidents of bullying directed at him. He reported repeated instances of vandalism to his car at school that happened in late August and September, including that someone had written the word “fag” on the vehicle.

A student was disciplined for the alleged vandalism but Peters told the board he didn’t feel safe attending school.
