A Rantoul man remained jailed Saturday for an alleged sexual assault that took place Thursday night.

Rantoul police Sgt. Marcus Beach said Jeremy E. Davis, 22, who listed an address in the 1500 block of Par Drive, was arrested Friday after being interviewed about an encounter that took place in his home Thursday night.

Beach said Davis allegedly committed a forcible sex act with an 18-year-old woman who was in his home Thursday. Beach said Davis was reportedly intoxicated when the assault occurred. The woman promptly reported it to police and sought medical attention at Carle Hospital but was not seriously physically injured.

Patrol officers talked to Davis on Thursday night but did not arrest him then.

After an interview with police Friday morning, Davis was arrested on a preliminary charge of criminal sexual assault. Beach said Davis was cooperative.

He is scheduled to be formally charged today. His bond was set Saturday at $25,000.
