URBANA — A Rantoul teen who admitted possessing a stolen car a month ago has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Champaign County Judge Heidi Ladd agreed to recommend Malcome J. Pettigrew, 17, who listed an address in the 1200 block of Fairlawn Drive, for the Department of Corrections’ boot camp program. If accepted, he could complete his sentence in 120 days.

Pettigrew pleaded guilty Friday to possessing a car that had been stolen on Dec. 8 from the 2000 block of Cureton Drive in Urbana. Police found the car several hours later in the 1000 block of Colorado Avenue.

Pettigrew, who was wearing rubber gloves, was driving and told police he had found it running on a street, so he took it.
