URBANA — A Thomasboro man is being held at the Champaign County Jail on $60,000 bond following his arrest for home invasion.
Derrick L. Lindsey, 37, who listed an address in Thomasboro, pleaded innocent Dec. 26 to one count of home invasion and one count of domestic battery.
According to a police report, Lindsey had been living with the 35-year-old victim in Thomasboro when they got into a fight Sept. 10. During the fight, Lindsey reportedly shattered the driver’s window of a car, slapped the woman across the face, choked her with both hands and kicked the rear passenger door.
Assistant State’s Attorney Stephanie Weber said the woman’s face was swollen, and she had red finger marks on her neck. There was no information on whether the woman received treatment at a hospital.
Lindsey moved out of the home following the Sept. 10 incident, but he returned at 3 a.m. Sept. 14 at a time when his former girlfriend and her new boyfriend, a 33-year-old Rantoul man, were there, according to police.
Police said that Lindsey forced his way through the front door and walked into the bedroom. After the woman ran out of the bedroom, Lindsey reportedly punched the Rantoul man.
Weber said the Rantoul man’s eyes were black and blue, and his eyes were swollen shut.
Police then arrested Lindsey at 1:23 p.m. Dec. 22 after the incident was reported to police and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
