A Rantoul man who allegedly stole cash from his employer was arrested Tuesday.

Rantoul police Sgt. Marcus Beach said officers were sent to the Long John Silver’s restaurant at 725 W. Champaign Ave., late Tuesday morning.

A manager indicated that on Monday night, Douglas K. Beckett, 41, was fired. Upon arriving for work Tuesday, they discovered the bank bag with the deposit missing from the safe. They checked surveillance videotape, which showed Beckett taking the bag.

Officers found him at a motel in Rantoul where he was staying. Beach said Beckett admitted taking the bag because he was angry. Police were unable to find the bag, which Beckett told police still had the money in it.

Beckett’s next court appearance was set for Dec. 18.
