Schluter named Exchange student of the month

Emily Schluter of rural Gifford has been named Rantoul Exchange Club student of the month.

The Rantoul Township High School senior is a daughter of Bryan and Becky Schluter. She has a grade point average of 4.291.

Her school activities have included volleyball, track team, student council, class representative,  FFA and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Her honors or awards have included Music Leadership Award, Student of the Quarter (junior high), Heart of Gold Award, honorable mention in academics and ALA Illini Girls State.

Her civic and volunteer activities have included church youth group for seven years and student council for four years. Her youth group activities have included food and clothing giveaways, Peace Meals, back-to-school bags packed with school supplies, food deliveries, working at the Rantoul food pantry, Kids Club and canteen run serving the homeless.

After the 2013 tornado in Gifford, she helped to clean ditches and babysat for the adults in the community who were trying to clean up the town.

Student council activities included eighth-grade mixer, freshman open house and freshman orientation.

Her work experience has included Lenny’s Ice Cream Shop and County Market.

Her goal after graduation is to attend school and work as an emergency room nurse.
