Girls basketball: Bunnies, Trojans top dogs in own regionals

The ultimate goal of winning a state championship for all high school girls basketball teams in February has settled into a pretty normal routine.

— Having their school send fan buses and hold pep rallies.

Number to watch

That’s the seed the Fisher and Armstrong-Potomac girls basketball teams will try to live up to when Class 1A regional action begins next week for both teams.

This week's Top Five - key February dates

The final day of January is about to hit, flipping the calendar to February, the most critical month of the winter high school sports season.

Boys basketball: Trojans still trying for elusive first win

FITHIAN — No boys basketball team wants to lose 20 games in a season.

Especially without having at least one win before it reaches the dubious milestone.

Such was the scenario for the Armstrong-Potomac boys basketball team on Jan. 22 after the Trojans lost 59-48 at rival Oakwood in Vermilion Valley Conference action.

The Column: Farewell Rantoul, Fisher, Armstrong… for now

If you’ve heard the rumors, they’re true.

If you’ve seen the ad in the paper, it’s true.

If you’ve had this thought (good, bad or indifferent), it’s true.

I am leaving the Rantoul Press newspaper.

It’s not easy to type those seven words that spelled out separately might not mean much, but combined together in a sentence, mean a great deal.

Girls basketball: Trojans win first county title since 2003

DANVILLE — They didn’t score the first points and they didn’t score the last points, but the Armstrong-Potomac girls basketball team scored the most points in between the start and the finish.
