Middlefork River Forest Preserve named Illinois' first Dark Sky Park

PENFIELD — After months of work, and then waiting, the Middle Fork River Forest Preserve in northeastern Champaign County has officially been certified as a Dark Sky Park — the first in Illinois — by the International Dark Sky Association.


Eisenhauer: 'Good fit for community'

DANVILLE — Back when he was Danville’s 38-year-old new mayor, Scott Eisenhauer hoped to win one more four-year term and work college courses into his schedule, so he could become a high school government teacher once he walked away from city hall.

That was 16 years and three successful mayoral campaigns ago.

Danville board to discuss finding Eisenhauer's replacement

DANVILLE — Danville aldermen are scheduled to hash out behind closed doors who will fill the remainder of Mayor Scott Eisenhauer’s term Tuesday night.

Four aldermen have expressed interest in the appointment to the mayor’s office, which would begin Nov. 5, when Eisenhauer begins his new job in Rantoul as village administrator.

RANKIN — The Rankin man who shot himself and two other people Thursday night had an order of protection against him, according to Vermilion County court records.

On Sept. 30, Emily Lee filed for an order of protection against her estranged husband, Vernon Scott Lee, 46, of Rankin, according to court records. On Oct. 1, the court granted that emergency order.
