Rantoul area gets 6-8 inches of snow. More on the way?

As the Rantoul area trudged through more than a half-foot of snow Sunday, meteorologists warned that more could be on the way in a matter of days.

“There’s a storm coming Friday night or Saturday morning that looks interesting,” said Ed Shimon, a senior meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Lincoln.

Christmas Eve fire damages Fisher home

FISHER — Nobody was injured in a Christmas Eve fire in Fisher.

Sangamon Valley Assistant Fire Chief Darren Kuhns said firefighters were called to a single-story home at 61 Glenbrook Lane at 2:29 p.m. Monday.

Firefighters from the Cornbelt Fire Protection District provided mutual aid by standing by at the Sangamon station.

URBANA — The Champaign County Nursing Home will be privately owned come August.

Following months of debate and deliberations, the Champaign County Board voted 15-6 Thursday night to authorize the sale of the financially challenged home to Extended Care Clinical LLC and Altitude Health Services Inc., both headquartered in Evanston.


Wanted: Info on shots-fired incident

RANTOUL — Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking the public’s help solving a shots fired incident that took place nearly four weeks ago.

According to a Rantoul police report, officers were called to Crispin Auto Sales, a used car dealership at 1648 Liberty Ave., at 9:30 a.m. April 4 after receiving word about shots fired there.
