Thomasboro board approves Taser purchase

THOMASBORO — Budgetary matters and the purchase of a Taser for police use are the highlights of Thomasboro’s April village board meeting.

Village board trustee Fred Meek announced his resignation from the board.  He plans to move away from Thomasboro closer to Rantoul.


Board expects response soon on Gifford water tower repair grant

GIFFORD — A response to an application to repair the Gifford water tower should be received in about two weeks.

That’s what Susan Chavarria of the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission told the Gifford Village Board last week.


Thomasboro hires two police officers

THOMASBORO — The village of Thomasboro has hired two police officers, both of whom bring a diverse set of experiences to the department.

Jennifer Smoot will assume a full-time position at the department. She has a background in university and corrections law enforcement.

Zack Mintz will assume a part-time position. He was a police officer in East St. Louis.


RECOVERY ASSISTANCE: Regional Planning Commission to aid Gifford at no charge

GIFFORD — The village of Gifford will receive help managing recovery planning from the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission.

Thomasboro Village Board discusses employment matters

THOMASBORO – Employment matters took up much of the Thomasboro Village Board meeting Jan. 13.

The village police department is incorporating a new officer just as it lost another. Jeff Metzler will work with Police Chief Keith Willis for a few months, and could start patrolling independently as early as March.
