Three GCMS/Fisher Middle School wrestlers earn IESA Class A state meet berth

COAL CITY — Three Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher Middle School wrestlers earned a trip to the IESA Class A state meet. 

Carson Maxey finished third in the 90-pound bracket at Saturday’s Coal City Sectional while Aiden Sancken (135 pounds) and Shawn Schlickman (75 pounds) each placed third as well.


Trio of GCMS/Fisher wrestlers win Class 1A regional titles in Clinton

CLINTON — Hayden Workman of the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher High School wrestling team won the 285-pound championship in Saturday’s IHSA Class 1A Clinton Regional.

Workman won via 3-0 decision over Warrensburg-Latham’s Adam Maxwell in the title match after pinning Caleb Borklund in 3:24 and Petersburg PORTA’s Brayden Vickers in a time of 1:48 in the first two rounds.


GCMS/Fisher High School wrestling defeats Oakwood/Salt Fork, St. Joseph-Ogden

GIBSON CITY — The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher wrestling team gained two dual victories in a triangular meet on Tuesday, defeating Oakwood/Salt Fork 51-21 and St. Joseph-Ogden 45-35.

Payton Kean gained two wins via pinfall in the 195-pound class, pinning O/SF's Max Branigin in a time of 1:52 and SJ-O's Camden Hesterberg in 1:22.


Indianapolis man arrested for burglary, forgery

PAXTON — An Indianapolis man was arrested for burglary and forgery and on a warrant out of Hendricks County, Ind., Oct. 18 after Paxton police responded to Busey Bank, 140 W. Center St., around 1:48 p.m. that day regarding a fraudulent check.


Ford County sheriff warns motorists in wake of recent deaths

PAXTON — Following three fatal traffic accidents in Ford County in March, Sheriff Mark Doran said the sheriff’s department will be ramping up efforts to ensure drivers are obeying the law.


Paxton official pleads down in driving case

PAXTON — Paxton’s public works director pleaded guilty this week to reckless driving in Ford County Circuit Court, after State’s Attorney Andrew Killian agreed to reduce the offense from a Class A misdemeanor to a petty offense.

Mark LeClair, 59, of Paxton, was ordered to pay fines and court costs totaling $524, court records show.


Falcons go unbeaten at HOIC Duals

LEROY – The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher High School wrestling team won all four of its duals at Saturday’s Heart of Illinois Conference Dual Meet.

The Falcons finished the regular season with a 15-6 record and will wrestle next Saturday in the Class 1A Regional at Deer Creek-Mackinaw.

The Falcons defeated El Paso-Gridley 39-34.


LeRoy squeezes past GCMS/Fisher wrestlers

FISHER — The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher High School wrestling team lost 36-35 Friday to LeRoy/Tri-Valley.

Calen Ragle won via 1:09 pinfall in the 126-pound match while Jacob Horsch pinned his 145-pound opponent in 1:51.


Falcons lose 40-21 to Monticello

MONTICELLO — The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher High School wrestling team lost 40-21 Tuesday to Monticello.

Owen Duke pinned his 220-pound opponent in 3:57 while Cole Maxey (106 pounds), Jacob Horsch (138 pounds) and Payton Kean (170 pounds) each won matches via decision for the Falcons. Alex Rosenbaum won by forfeit at 285 pounds.
